Environmental Mapping GIS
Macomb County GIS Services maintains a wide inventory of environmental resources and features for all communities in Macomb County. Features have been inventoried to provide a comprehensive set of data designed to provide county and local policy makers detailed information in areas of economic development, transportation, the environment, recreation and municipal capital investment. These data sets have also been designed to assist in the continuing operation, maintenance, future planning and funding/grants in these areas.
The Planning Department’s Planning and Mapping Services group has compiled a series of Model Environmental Ordinances. The information in these documents provides community staff and public officials with a comprehensive set of methods to incorporate environmental protection into community documents that will preserve and enhance your community's long-term environmental and economic health. These ordinances can be used individually, or developed to work together for a more thorough protection program. When implemented countywide, the ordinances will provide greater consistency between communities in their environmental preservation and development efforts, as well as help to meet the overall county's goals of natural area protection. The data sets maintained by the Environmental Mapping Program form the core of an environmental toolbox designed to help facilitate and support local units of government wishing to adopt their own environmental ordinances.
