Multimillion Grupo Antolin project nears completion in Shelby, to hire hundreds

International automaker Grupo Antolin is in the midst of their largest U.S. project. Based in Spain, the company broke ground in Shelby Township this past May and has been working hard to finish construction, install equipment and hire and train new employees.

The Macomb County Department of Planning & Economic Development introduced Grupo Antolin to the property, located at 52888 Shelby Parkway, during a tour of available properties. The $61 million capital investment will result in a 365,000-square-foot facility. The company received a performance-based grant of $3.6 million through the Michigan Business Development Program and has applied for a 12-year tax abatement that could save it approximately $4.4 million.

The new site is slated to open Nov. 1, with full production by Dec. 1. There are many pieces of equipment to install, of which 85 percent are robotic.

This investment will result in the creation of 430 new jobs. Approximately 150 employees will work each shift. Management at Shelby Antolin stated that while experience and schooling are important, it is more important to hire driven and passionate employees. Those starting at entry level will have the opportunity to advance from within. There will be nearly 120 skilled jobs at the facility. The company offers a shift premium and 401K along with sick and vacation time.

By utilizing training programs offered through Michigan Works!, Grupo Antolin can potentially save $365,279. The company is also working with Macomb Community College's Michigan Technical Education Center to apply for the Michigan New Jobs Program, through which they may be eligible for free employee training.

Additionally, the company is interested in connecting high school students to careers in manufacturing. As such, Shelby Antolin intends to explore opportunities with our department’s Manufacturing Day event and the SME Education Foundations’ PRIME program.

Resumes may be sent to Shelby.HR@grupoantolin.com. Job postings are listed on Indeed.com and CareerBuilder.com.
