KUKA Systems Invests in Macomb County

KUKA Systems North America will invest $14.4 million in its Clinton Township operations to meet increased demand for products.  The expansion is expected to create 116 new jobs.

“I am thrilled that KUKA Systems will expand its home in Macomb County,” said County Executive Mark A. Hackel.  “Aside from being a leader in the development of automated systems and the great jobs they provide, they have also been an active and involved partner with the county.”

KUKA Systems is a global supplier of assembly and welding systems, as well as other related machinery, for the automotive, aerospace, alternative energy and manufacturing industries.  Its parent company, KUKA Group, was founded in Germany in 1898.  Today the company has more than 3,500 employees in 15 countries worldwide.

The Macomb County Department of Planning & Economic Development worked closely with company officials to identify and secure programs and services to help with the expansion.  As a result, the Michigan Business Development Program awarded a $900,000 performance-based grant, Clinton Township offered a property tax abatement, and the Macomb-St. Clair Township Workforce Development Board plans to find and screen candidates for the new jobs that will be created.

“KUKA is proud to support the local community and develop new talent for our global aerospace business,” said KUKA Aerospace Group Vice President Robert Reno.
