Home in Macomb Business Awards Return!
Nominations due by December 9
Back for a second year, the Department of Planning & Economic Development will recognize area businesses in five categories in February:
- Champion of Workforce Development – achievement of continuous improvement through innovative ways to hire, train and retain employees.
- Diversification Leader – ability to tap new revenues by serving new industries or customers.
- Energy Efficiency Expert – best use of green technologies to reduce energy consumption and operating expenses.
- Corporate Citizen – meaningful community involvement through service and support.
- Startup Business of the Year (*New) – success in less than four years of operation with at least one employee other than the business owner.
“Macomb County’s 18,000 businesses are important for all of us,” said Executive Director Stephen N. Cassin. “Not only do they provide direct and indirect jobs for our residents, they contribute to the quality of life we all enjoy here in Macomb County.”
The nomination process is simple and online: Provide background information about the nominated company and a 300-word summary describing how they fit the category. Nominations are due by December 9.
A panel of judges will review and score nominations. Returning to this difficult job are:
- Dr. Jim Jacobs, President of Macomb Community College
- Gene Lovell, President of First State Bank
- Cindy Goodaker, Executive Editor for Crain’s Detroit Business
- Stephen Cassin, Director of the Department of Planning & Economic Development
Joining the judge’s panel for the first time is Julie Gustafson, Executive Director of the Macomb-Oakland University Business INCubator.
Each nominated company will be offered two free tickets to attend the awards breakfast on February 11, 2014. A brief summary of the business and a link to their website will be featured on the county website as well as in the event program book.
County Executive Mark A. Hackel, with the help of a celebrity emcee, will present a beautiful crystal award to a single recipient in each category. Tom LaSorda, former CEO of Chrysler Corporation and Fisker Automotive and founder of incWell, a financial services firm offering seed capital for new ventures, will offer the keynote address.
