Planning Matters!

The Macomb County Department of Planning & Economic Development will officially manage planning activities for the City of Utica.  In an agreement signed by both parties, the city will pay the County a monthly retainer fee to offer land-use planning and technical services to the city.

“Good planning is a critical function of government.  It helps to create communities where people want to live and businesses want to invest,” said Macomb County Executive Mark A. Hackel.  “In these days of fiscal constraint, it is imperative that governments work together to continue needed services at minimal costs.  This arrangement will preserve the process in Utica while saving taxpayer dollars.”

The Department works with planners or planning consultants for all 27 municipalities in the County, but Utica is the first to hire it for full planning services.

“We’ve enjoyed a great working relationship with the Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development,” said Utica Mayor Jacqueline Noonan.  “This arrangement preserves our commitment to sound community planning while conserving city resources.”
