For over 20 years M & M Turning & Manufacturing Company, founded in 1991 by Mark W. LaForest and Mark J. LaForest, was a respected machining services company in the local tool and die industry. But the company had a vision of expanding beyond just providing machining services. They have expanded into complete manufacturing processes making parts complete from shafts to gears to machining precision castings.
Enter Dennis Irwin, hired as Customer and Vendor Development & Product Support manager to support this goal of manufacturing and to bring this service company into the manufacturing realm. He wrote a business plan for M&M showing how this transition could be accomplished. With the help of Camille Silda, Macomb County Planning and Economic Development business advisor, Dennis was able to obtain Tax Abatements and commercial financing for the expansion plans and to hire necessary and qualified personnel.

M & M specializes in sourcing goods from local companies and supplying manufacturers with precision machined aircraft parts and services. Social media, especially LinkedIn, has been used to take advantage in obtaining contracts, or hiring new workers. M & M Turning & Manufacturing Company understands and uses Lean Manufacturing philosophies and practices to gain a competitive edge. Recently Dennis was asked to join a statewide advisory group to the governor in its quest to become Lean in its State government style of doing business.
But above all, M & M Turning & Manufacturing Company makes precision manufacturing a high priority as well as being on time and cost effective. Recently, the company invested in 2 new CNC lathes, CNC Gear analyzing, CNC Gear Shaping and CNC Gear Hobbing to further their pursuit of the aerospace industry. Certified as an ISO 9001:2008, AS-9100 Aerospace Certification, and an ITAR Registered company. M & M Turning & Manufacturing Company has shown that it has a high determination to meet or exceed customer’s needs. In fact, their precision is some of the highest quality in the area. Triumph Group is the largest supplier in the world to the Boeing aircraft company.
Their investment in state-of-the art machinery and equipment has earned the company an Industrial Facility Tax Exemption Certificate from the state of Michigan. In addition, yearly sales have risen from about $3 million in 2010, to almost $8 million in 2012
