New On-the-Job Training Program

On-the-job training: A “win-win” opportunity for Macomb County employers and job-hunters

Attention employers!  Did you know that you can hire new employees and get a 50% reimbursement for their wages? Michigan Works has funds available for you through its “On-the-Job Training Program” (OJT).  Through this program, Michigan Works will refer qualifying individuals to participating employers.

Two separate OJT programs are available.  Basically, the first is directed at the dislocated worker; the second is for the worker who is a member of an economically disadvantaged family.  Each program has a different number of maximum hours of training for which you, the employer, will receive reimbursement.

Under both programs, the reimbursement rate is 50% of the new hire’s wages up to a maximum reimbursement of $10.32 per hour.  Individuals must be hired in at the prevailing starting wage paid to other employees and the starting rate must be at least $10.00 per hour.

If this program sounds like it could fit your needs, Bob Apczynski, employer service coordinator, will be happy to provide you with more information. You can contact him at (586) 460-5022 or at bob@macomb-stclairworks.org.
