The Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development (MCPED) Business Development team wants to help make that happen with our Strategic Business Retention and Expansion plan. Our strategy is proactive – reaching out to local businesses to determine what their needs and concerns are, and to help facilitate that growth and expansion right here in Macomb County.
Our business development team brings decades of institutional knowledge and resources to the table. With deep roots in Macomb County, our team has a vested interest in the growth and success of our region and our residents.

Macomb County has long been known for its entrepreneurial spirit. We work with clients of all types. A number of our businesses are homegrown, and many have been here for more than 100 years. All have found Macomb County to be a great place to run a business, thanks to our skilled and professional workforce as well as the manufacturing expertise that exists in the region.
Whatever the size or the industry, our team makes it our business to know the businesses in our area and the types of resources available to help them grow.

MCPED uses a team approach, utilizing its partners from the Small Business Development Center, workforce development, colleges for training, the state of Michigan for incentives and other helpful programs. Our other partners can include local, county and state economic development organizations, local, regional and state chambers of commerce, local municipalities and government officials, and local financial institutions and utilities.
Our goal is to be your “go to” resource when you are looking for help. If you do decide to expand, we will be there every step of the way, including helping to find a new site or expanding on the existing site. We will help connect business owners or prospective entrepreneurs with any new programs, incentives or grants that will help make your expansion become a reality. We are only a phone call away.
Just recently, the Macomb County Business Retention and Expansion Team has had success growing two local businesses using tools available in our office. A former hotel located on Gratiot Avenue in Clinton Township, was retrofitted to an energy-efficient senior living facility called Parkdale Senior Living using Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing. And Richmond landmark, Huvaere’s Richmond Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram was able to receive a five-year tax abatement with the help of the MCPED to begin a $14 million renovation and expansion of its dealership property.
Two of the biggest difficulties for businesses in 2022 are finding qualified talent and preparing for the technological changes that are ahead in the manufacturing sector.
Macomb County is constantly Fueling the Talent Pipeline by engaging directly with businesses and the next generation of our local workforce. We work one-on-one with area employers to learn about their talent needs and connect them to the tailored resources currently available to support business goals. Through relationships with school and affiliates, we identify and pursue opportunities to develop initiatives that expose students to career possibilities and point them to educational pathways that lead to meaningful employment.
The Macomb County Business Retention and Expansion Team is also helping businesses upgrade their technology through the Macomb Next project with the goal of creating awareness of all of the Industry 4.0 programs available to businesses. We are committed to helping companies of all types expand their use to Industry 4.0 technologies through various campaigns showcasing Industry 4.0 in action and workshops.
