Macomb County Office of Senior Services extends offer of FREE Shipt memberships to homebound individuals with physical disabilities and seniors

The Office of Senior Services has extended free Shipt membership to include homebound individuals age 18 and older who have a disability and Seniors 60+ are eligible. 

“The program was originally only offered to seniors. However, we quickly realized there were individuals in the community with disabilities that could benefit from the program. Fortunately, we were able to purchase additional memberships from our partners at Shipt.  This extends our reach to support more residents.” Sheila Cote’, Director of Senior Services

What is Shipt?

Shipt is an app (or website) that provides grocery delivery from your local store(s) via a local community of reliable shoppers. Become a member, order online from your phone or computer, and Shipt will deliver your order straight to your home. The Office of Senior Services is pleased to provide free one-year Shipt memberships to seniors who are 60+ and individuals 18 and older who are homebound (unable to leave home unassisted)  due to disabilities. Offer available to Macomb County residents. Shipt memberships will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. One membership per person. 

What is included?

Your free one-year Shipt membership includes unlimited free delivery from participating stores for one year from the date of subscription. You will receive free delivery for orders over $35 while orders less than $35 will have a flat $7 delivery fee added to your total. You are responsible for providing Shipt with credit card information to process payment for the items ordered as well as any taxes and optional gratuity. Your membership will expire one year from the date you set-up your account and will not automatically renew. 

How are your prices determined?

The price you see in the Shipt app is the price you pay. Shipt prices will vary slightly from in-store prices to help cover the costs of picking, packing and processing. You can expect to pay about $5 more using Shipt than you would on a $35 order purchased in the store. When ordering from select retailers, a small service fee will be added at checkout. For example, a loaf of bread costs $2.29 in store and $2.59 to have it delivered to your door. 

I don’t have access to a computer. Can I still use Shipt?

Yes! A family member can help you sign-up for and manage your Shipt account, order items, and schedule deliveries. Detailed instructions will be mailed to you within 14 days of receiving your request.

How do I pay for the items I purchase using Shipt?

Shipt accepts all major US credit and debit cards, including reloadable gift cards. To be used through Shipt, these cards must have a three-digit CVC code, usually located on the back of the card.

In order to enroll, simply go to and click on the “form” icon. An online form is available and the membership code and activation information will be emailed or mailed to your home. You may also contact the Office of Senior Services at 586 469 5228 Monday-Friday –select #4 on the menu.
